Chief & Council

Chief Evan B.G. Taypotat

I’m the son of Iris Taypotat and Morley Watson, and the grandson of Albert and Marjorie Taypotat and Ivan and Jeanette Watson. I was raised by Denton and Beatrice George of Ochapowace Nation, whose guidance and care helped shape the values I carry today.

I have served as an Infantry Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and as Principal of Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School. I hold a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Educational Administration from the University of Regina, and an Executive MBA in Indigenous Business Leadership from Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business. I am also honoured to serve as the Honorary Colonel of the Snowbirds, officially known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron of the Canadian Armed Forces.

I am dedicated to the fight to honour and implement our Treaty and inherent rights, and I firmly believe our Nation’s future success lies in our culture, strong governance, and economic self-determination. I am a husband to Megaen and a proud father to Bea, Cooper, and Tate, along with our seven dogs and two cats.

My motivation comes from the responsibility I carry to represent more than 2,300 Kahkewistahaw members worldwide.
