Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School (CKCS) serves our community from Head Start through Grade 12, with daycare programs for our youngest learners. Our school building, completed in 2019 after years of growth and renewal, stands as a place where the dreams of our ancestors are becoming reality.
We walk each day in the prayers of our grandfathers, knowing that our children are the living answers to those prayers. Their hopes for strong, educated, and grounded generations continue in our classrooms, on our land, and within our culture.
At CKCS, learning extends beyond academics. Our students thrive through sports, arts, music, and cultural programming, while also being guided by Elders who share stories, language, and traditional knowledge. Parents and mentors walk alongside us, strengthening our students’ learning journeys.
Together, we honour the vision of those who came before us by creating a school that is safe, healthy, and rooted in Cree language, land-based learning, and community values.

Message from the Principal
Tansi, and welcome back to the 2025–2026 school year at Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School!
It is with great excitement that we open our doors this year to new classrooms, new teachers, and new resources that will help us continue to grow together as a strong learning community. Guided by the intentions of our grandfathers who signed Treaty 4 and the prayers of our grandparents, we carry their vision into another school year filled with opportunity, connection, and success.
At CKCS, we are committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for every student. This year, we are proud to add a salad bar filled with fresh fruits and vegetables to our menu, supporting both healthy choices and active minds. Our no cell phone policy continues to encourage more interaction, play, and relationship building. All elementary students (Grades 1–8) will be heading outside for breaks, enjoying fresh air, physical activity, and the chance to connect with one another.
Our high school students will notice exciting new spaces just for them: areas dedicated to homework, movement, relaxation, and social connection. These high school-only spaces reflect our commitment to providing a welcoming environment that honors our teens as leaders in our school community. Safety also remains a priority, and our sign-in and sign-out process helps us ensure that all students are accounted for and cared for during the day.
This year, our land-based and Cree programming are supported by new knowledge keepers, strengthening cultural learning and ensuring that students are grounded in identity, tradition, and language as part of their daily education.
As we look ahead to this year, we continue to celebrate our Cree language and culture, strengthen academic success in reading and numeracy, and provide meaningful land-based learning opportunities. Together, with the support of families and community, we will continue to build a school that reflects both the hopes of our ancestors and the bright future of our children.
Kninânskomitinân,

Alice Francis Daycare
The Alice Francis Daycare offers quality childcare to the Community of Kahkewistahaw. We are an extension of Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School.
We encourage the child to love themselves, family, and community. We offer lifelong learning in health promotion, parent involvement, education, social support and culture and language.
The daycare has a vision of one day making it fully immersed in culture and language. A child who is rooted in their community will learn to give back. We take great pride knowing we guide the children in the most important and crucial part of their lives.
We have space for up to 20 children. We are open 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Applications are available at the daycare, with preference given to band members that are in school or employed.
