CLASSIFICATION:            TERM POSITION – 38 WEEKS

ages of 18 – 30 years of age *

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Housing Carpenter Labourer will be responsible for assisting the Housing department to complete maintenance/renovations for band and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) housing units.  Reporting directly to the Housing Coordinator, the Housing Carpenter Labourer will work to gain experience and knowledge in housing construction.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Kahkewistahaw First Nation housing department to complete maintenance and renovations.
  2. Keep the site foreman fully advised of any housing needs and conditions.
  3. Ensure completion of tasks within the construction schedule, maintain inventory list of materials specific to construction.
  4. Strong public relations skills.
  5. Knowledgeable with construction and tool safety.
  6. Comply with all the Kahkewistahaw First Nation Policies and Procedures.
  7. Must punch in and out to confirm workdays and comply with the Kahkewistahaw First Nation Employment Policy and Procedures Manual.
  8. Assume any other duties as may be assigned by the Housing Coordinator and Supervisor/Foreman.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must be between the age of 18-30 years, funding is through the CMHC Housing Internship for Indigenous Youth Programming.
  2. Possess excellent communication skills both orally and written.
  3. Be of a pleasant and professional manner as well as being punctual and reliable.
  4. Ensure that confidential matters remain confidential.
  5. Be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  6. Possess excellent time management skills.
  7. Be able to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
  8. Possess a working knowledge of First Nation housing programs and services.
  9. Have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle would be an asset.
  10. Must provide three (3) current references along with an updated typed resume.
  11. Submit an updated Criminal Records Check (CPIC) with your application employment.
  12. Must provide a drug screening test if selected for the position.
