POSITION: LANGUAGE & CULTURE CONSULTANT
WAGE RANGE: BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS
CLASSIFICATION: CONTRACT, FULL-TIME
Kahkewistahaw First Nation is seeking a dynamic and community-rooted Language & Culture Consultant to lead and support the revitalization of language, culture, and land-based learning. This position will oversee the implementation of language and culture initiatives and develop and manage culturally relevant programming and coordinate the creation of a land-based culture camp and cultural learning area.
This is a leadership role that requires vision, cultural integrity, and a commitment to working collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, and education staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Required:
- Strong knowledge of Cree language, culture, and First Nation ways of knowing and being.
- Demonstrated experience in community leadership, education, or cultural programming.
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing budgets, programs, and funding reports.
- Submit a pre-employment drug screen within thirty days of commencing employment.
- Must submit three references with an updated resume and cover letter, and current Vulnerable Sector check.
- Preferred:
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Education, Cultural Management, or related field or equivalent life experience.
- Experience with the development of land-based learning programs or cultural camps.
- Knowledge of the Cree language, Kahkewistahaw First Nations culture, ceremonies and heritage
- Grounded in culture and community values.
- Collaborative and inclusive in leadership style.
- Highly organized and self-motivated, able to work independently and guide a committee
- Passionate about the revitalization of language and culture for future generations.
